A fine of at least 10% of the cheque amount, subject to a minimum of AED 5,000 and a maximum of twice the cheque amount, applies to anyone who: 1. intentionally and falsely states that funds are absent or insufficient; 2. in bad faith refuses payment by the bank of a funded cheque where no valid objection was filed; 3. refuses to place the statement referred to in Article 663; or 4. refuses partial payment, the related certificate or delivery of the original cheque as required by Article 648(2).
