01

Private banking is not an ordinary personal or corporate account

A standard personal account primarily supports daily payments, while a corporate account supports the operating turnover of a business. Private banking typically combines custody, investment advice or management, brokerage access, foreign exchange and, following a separate assessment, portfolio-backed credit. The relevant bank determines asset thresholds, acceptable residence countries and available products. The process starts by defining purpose, investable assets, liquidity, currencies, asset locations, payment needs, management and financing, before selecting the regulated institution and the precise legal entity that will contract with the client.

02

Onshore banks, DIFC and ADGM are checked in different registers

Banks and other financial institutions in the federal perimeter are checked in the Central Bank of the UAE register. Financial firms in the Dubai International Financial Centre are verified through the DFSA Public Register, while Abu Dhabi Global Market participants are checked through the ADGM and FSRA registers. A group presence in the DIFC or ADGM does not automatically mean that the named entity may accept bank deposits or provide every advertised product. Before assets are transferred, the contracting entity, licence number and category, permitted activities, account location, client-protection rules and complaints route are verified.

03

Residents, non-residents and international families follow different onboarding routes

The bank considers nationality, immigration and tax status, actual place of life and business, profession, public profile, sanctions and geographic exposure, relationship purpose and expected activity. An Emirates ID and UAE address may simplify parts of the process, but do not replace source-of-wealth review or compel a bank to accept the client. A non-resident must also explain the UAE nexus, economic rationale for the bank and eligibility to be serviced in the residence country. For a family, individual, joint and structure accounts, authorities, succession and access on death or incapacity are coordinated.

04

Source of wealth and source of funds form an evidenced history

Source of wealth explains how the overall estate was created: business income, sale of a company or asset, dividends, remuneration, investment returns, inheritance, gift or family distribution. Source of funds traces the specific amount entering the account. Corporate records, contracts, financial statements, tax returns, dividend resolutions, probate documents and the banking trail should support one coherent chronology. Several countries or a complex structure are not an automatic bar, but require a clear map of ownership, control, tax and movement of each material asset.

05

A trust, foundation or family-office account requires a control map

The institution identifies the founder or settlor, trustee, foundation council, guardian or protector, beneficiaries, authorised persons, distribution rules and source of contributed assets. The structure's legal character, tax classification, effective management, investment mandate and constitutional restrictions are reviewed separately. A DIFC or ADGM foundation does not conceal controlling persons from the bank or competent authorities. Constitutional documents, bank questionnaires, beneficial-ownership data and actual decision-making must align; nominees should not be used to hide ownership or avoid AML, sanctions or tax-reporting rules.

06

CRS, FATCA and tax residence are reviewed before filing

The bank obtains tax-residence self-certifications for the account holder and controlling persons and applies the prevailing CRS and FATCA framework. A UAE residence visa or banking address does not by itself terminate tax residence elsewhere. The pre-opening review covers presence days, permanent home, centre of vital interests, company management, CFC rules, origin and taxation of income, trust or foundation status and foreign-account reporting. Banking, corporate and tax files should state the same facts; planning should never depend on incomplete disclosure.

FAQ

FAQ

Can a UAE private-banking account be guaranteed?

No. The bank independently assesses the client, countries, wealth, structure and purpose. We prepare an evidenced file, identify suitable regulated institutions and build genuine alternatives.

Are UAE residence and an Emirates ID required?

Requirements depend on the institution and product. Residence may widen the options but does not replace KYC, source-of-wealth review, tax-residence analysis or cross-border eligibility.

Can a DIFC or ADGM foundation open an investment account?

Eligibility depends on its documents, participants and control, assets, tax classification, account purpose and the institution's policy. Formation does not guarantee bank acceptance.

Is the account confidential from tax authorities?

Bank confidentiality does not disapply CRS, FATCA, exchange on request or the client's reporting duties in the country of tax residence.
