Article 820

1. If the contractor's work has produced an effect on the thing, they may retain it until the due remuneration is paid. If the thing perishes while in their possession before payment of the remuneration, they shall bear no liability, nor shall they be entitled to the remuneration. 2. If the contractor's work does not produce an effect on the thing, they shall not have the right to retain it for the collection of the remuneration. If they do so and the thing perishes, they shall be liable as for usurpation.
