1. If the share of one of the joint and several debtors in the debt is extinguished for a reason other than performance, the debt shall not be extinguished with respect to the other debtors except to the extent of that debtor's share. 2. If the liability merges between the creditor and one of the joint and several debtors, the debt shall not be extinguished with respect to the other debtors except to the extent of the share of the debtor whose liability has merged with that of the creditor.
