1. Any obligor who, by way of recourse, is claimed or is likely to be claimed to pay a bill of exchange, may, if he effects the payment, request that the bill, together with the protest and a receipt for the sum paid, be surrendered to him. 2. Any endorser who paid the bill of exchange may cross out his endorsement and all subsequent endorsements.
