1. The basic principle in the custody of the children is the participation of the father and the mother together in the responsibility of raising the children after the divorce. However, either of them may request to give up the right to joint custody. 2. The person requesting the abandonment of joint custody shall not be exempted from financial obligations with respect to the children in custody.
